Why does iphone 3gs keep rebooting

Restore the device using the iTunes method from above. Step 1 How to Force Restart an iPhone 3G Press and hold both the power button and the home button for at least 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Release the buttons after the Apple logo appears.

Hold the Power button for 3 seconds. Hold the Home button without releasing the Power button for 10 seconds. Release the Power Button but keep holding the Home button. Keep holding the Home button until you are alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode. To fix a disabled iPhone or iPad without iTunes, you have to erase your device. When I use restore mode, it goes smoothly at first, but unfortunately the length of time it will stay on is less than the length of time it takes to do the restore, so it keeps turning off mid-restore and then I get an error message.

Maybe this is related to the fact that it doesn't have service now? But the problem happens even if I put it in airplane mode and even if it's connected to wifi. It seems to keep trying to find service and after a few minutes, it reboots. I could possibly borrow a sim card from someone else with an iPhone 3 to see if it works when it has service. Others have suggested that maybe this problem means an internal part wasn't put back right. Any thoughts on what?

I'm afraid to open it up and poke around cause new problems. Posted on Dec 4, AM. Page content loaded. Dec 4, AM in response to slpscientist In response to slpscientist. Hate to say, but if your phone has been rebooted, restored or recovered. It sounds like a hardware issue. Send it to the refuribish line with the rest of them. Now i know you said you restored it. Reboot methods. The first thing to do is try to reboot the iPhone, which you can do by holding the top button and the home button for about ten seconds.

In some cases, the iPhone is actually still on, but a bug stops the screen from displaying anything, so you can reverse the problem by doing the reboot. If you still see nothing on the screen, try to plug the iPhone in and again try the reboot methods to see if you can get the screen to display. Restoring the iPhone. If the iPhone shows up in iTunes, but it still doesn't seem to turn on, it's definitely a display problem. When rebooting fails, you can restore the iPhone from iTunes, and this should fix whatever bugs caused the original issue.

Realize that you'll have to reload your music if you restore to another software version. To restore, plug the iPhone in, go into iTunes and click the iPhone's icon on the side of the select screen.

Click on the restore button and agree to the prompt asking if you really want to restore the iPhone's software. Recovery mode. You can put the iPhone into recovery mode if it has a charged battery by holding down the home button before connecting it to iTunes, then continuing to hold the button until iTunes recognizes that the iPhone's in recovery mode.

Recovery mode is a bare-bones way of booting the iPhone that allows you to perform a restore when you're dealing with a serious issue such as the iPhone failing to turn on or display anything on its screen. Dec 4, AM. I may not have stated it clearly in my message, but I was trying to say that I've tried each of those already.

Recovery mode won't work because my phone turns off during the process. I already bought a new phone, so this is a "last ditch" means of trying to fix it and either return the other phone in the 30 day window or at least have the option of letting my mother use this to replace her 3G or to use this with wifi in the future.

I'd still like to see if someone knows what usually causes this rebooting issue. I'm not ready to give up yet. For example, if it's being caused by the phone searching for service, I may still have some other options. Apparently the recovery mode has hurt things instead of helping them. Because it goes half way through recovery before my phone shuts off, apparently now I have half an operating system or something. Before, it would turn on and I could use apps and so forth for a few minutes before it rebooted.

Now I can't get past "connect to itunes" - and of course, the only option there is to restore the iPhone, but I can never get through that process. Try resetting home and power button when it shows connect to iTunes.

Then once it starts with the apple just hold down home button. I think that worked for me. Oh and plug it in with your computer and iTunes. Let me know, good luck. Dec 4, PM in response to slpscientist In response to slpscientist.

Have you compared apple part numbers on the old and new battery? Some say that you should replace the battery only with one that has the same part number or newer. Dec 4, PM. I have had the same problem, after hours of looking through support communities and numerous attempts to restore my iphone which was scuppered by it simply resetting once again, I decided to make a phone call to my girlfriend to tell her that my phone was simply not working so I couldn't use it for texting calling etc.

The call would not start, so she rang back which I failed to answer. When I went to reply to that call however, it seemed to work. Funny thing is after we spoke on the phone the iphone now seemingly functions fine. It no longer resets and sends text and calls fine. A strange one but it saved me a trip to the Apple store, it might not work with you but I thought it was worth a bash?
